Practice Philosophy

Mission Statement

Our practice mission is to empower families and children to cultivate a lifelong, healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

We recognize the unique challenges and diversity within every family and child we serve. Through evidence-based practices and personalized care, we collaborate with pediatric patients, aged birth to 26, along with their families and healthcare providers, to promote optimal health and growth.

Our commitment extends beyond mere guidance; we strive to provide education and facilitate access to nutrient-rich foods, ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive

Pediatric Nutrition Practice Philosophy: Embracing Health at Every Size (HAES)

We believe every child deserves a supportive and nurturing environment that prioritizes their well-being.

We follow the principles of Health at Every Size (HAES), focusing on holistic health and respecting body diversity.

Key Principles:
  • Weight Inclusivity: We celebrate each child’s unique body and avoid weight-centric discussions, focusing on health and well-being at any size.

  • Health Enhancement: Our goal is to support physical, emotional, and social well-being through balanced nutrition, regular physical activity, sufficient sleep, and emotional resilience.

  • Respectful Care: We provide compassionate, judgment-free care, listening to each child's needs and concerns in a safe space.

  • Eating for Well-Being: We promote mindful eating, honoring hunger and fullness cues, and celebrating the joy of eating a variety of foods.

  • Life-Enhancing Movement: We advocate for enjoyable physical activities that children find fun and engaging, fostering a love for movement.

  • Social Justice: We challenge societal biases and inequalities, creating an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Our Commitment to Families:
  • Education and Empowerment: We provide evidence-based information and resources for informed decisions.

  • Collaborative Approach: We develop personalized care plans reflecting family values and preferences.

  • Positive Role Modeling: We encourage caregivers to promote healthy behaviors and positive attitudes toward food and body image.

By embracing the HAES philosophy, we aim to foster a nurturing environment where every child can thrive, focusing on holistic health beyond physical appearance. We celebrate every child's journey toward a healthy and happy life.
